GDP-Population-Area relationship of Indian States

India has 29 states and 7 union territories. Some states are very big in terms of area or population, whereas some states/UTs are too small. Uttar Pradesh is India's most populus state with population above 200 million, on the other hand 16 states/UTs has yet to cross 1 million mark. India's largest state in terms of area, Rajasthan is more than 92 times bigger than smallest state Goa.

Uttar Pradesh is India's 2nd largest economy, but Due to huge population, It is 2nd poorest state of India on per capita income basis. India's smallest state Goa is richest state. Rajastan is largest state of India, But It is at 7th and 23th position in terms of GDP and GDP per capita, respectively.

This list include GDP, Population and Area sharing of 33 states/UTs. Population and Area figures are according to census 2011. GDP's data are of year 2013-14. GDP:POP is ratio of gdp sharing to population sharing. GDP:Area is ratio of gdp sharing to Area sharing. GDP:POP value greater than one indicates that gdp contribution of state is greater than population sharing. GDP:Area value greater than one indicates that gdp contribution of state is greater than area sharing.

10 states and 3 Union territories gdp's contribution is higher than their area and population sharing. States are: Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. 3 Union territories are Delhi, Chandigarh and Puducherry.

10 states gdp's contribution is lower than their area and population sharing. States are: Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tripura.

7 states gdp's contribution is higher than their population sharing but lower than their area sharing. States are: Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, A. & N. Islands, Mizoram, and Uttarakhand.

3 states gdp's contribution is higher than their area sharing but lower than their population sharing. States are: Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
