The Oceanian economy, comprising 14 economies, in 2025 is projected to be around $2.19 trillion in nominal terms, $91 billion more than in 2024, calculated by taking figures from the IMF. The GDP of Oceania is equivalent to that of Russia's GDP, the 11th largest economy in the world. Oceania is the smallest continental economy, accounting for 1.90% of the world's GDP in nominal terms and 1.14% in PPP terms.
Oceanian GDP is mainly distributed in Australia and New Zealand ($2.14 trillion), accounting for nearly 98% of the continent's GDP. Shares of other regions are Melanesia (1.91%), Polynesia (0.08%), and Micronesia (0.08%).
As per the UN, Oceania's share of the world economy was a maximum (2.39%) in 2012 and a minimum (1.37%) in 2001. In constant 2015 prices, which gives a better idea about expansion over the years, the Oceanian economy has expanded from $385 billion in 1970 to $1.77 trillion in 2023, or 4.59x.
The highest increment in Oceanian wealth was seen in 2011 when it had grown by $47 billion at constant 2015 prices, while the highest reduction of $9 billion was in 1982. The figure moved downward in two years. At current prices, the maximum increment was in the year 2010 of $313 billion, while the biggest decline was in 2015 ($246 billion). The figure moved downward in twelve years.
Grouping of continents and subregions is as per the United Nations Statistics Division.
