In 2026, Mexico is projected to have a moderately female-skewed sex ratio of 94.13 males per 100 females, meaning females outnumber males by a notable margin. Based on its overall female-to-male ratio, Mexico ranks 48th among 237 countries and territories worldwide, 15th out of 50 entities in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 16th out of 51 entities in North America. Its sex ratio is similar to those of Greece, France, and Uruguay.

Mexico has 64,488,397 (64.49 million) males and 68,509,260 (68.51 million) females in 2026, resulting in a female surplus of approximately 4.02 million. Males account for 48.49% of the population, while females make up 51.51%. Mexico has the largest female surplus in the Americas and the second-largest worldwide after Russia.

In Mexico, the male-to-female ratio remained below parity from 1950 to 1959, indicating that females outnumbered males during this period. It then rose above parity and remained there until 1967. After 1967, Mexico’s sex ratio fell sharply, dropping below parity and indicating a female majority. Projections suggest that the ratio will remain below parity through 2100, pointing to a persistent female majority.

The sex ratio at birth in Mexico is approximately 103.8 male births per 100 female births. Historically, the ratio has remained relatively stable, fluctuating within a narrow range of 103.5 to 104.0 male births per 100 female births.

As of 2026, Mexico has more males than females in age groups below 25 years. The 100+ age group has the highest male-to-female ratio, at 132.71 males per 100 females. Among children under 15, the sex ratio stands at 103.58, while in the working-age population (15–64), the ratio is noticeably female-skewed at 92.94 males per 100 females. However, the ratio declines sharply among those aged 65 and older, falling to 80.19 males per 100 females.

Interestingly, Mexico's sex ratio rises above 100 males per 100 females among people aged 100 and over. This unusually high ratio contrasts with many countries where women substantially outnumber men at the oldest ages, although estimates for the 100+ population are subject to greater uncertainty because of its small size.
