According to the IMF World Economic Outlook (October 2025), India's GDP growth rate in 2025 is projected at 6.646%. India is in 15th position out of 194 economies. With a 6.495% expansion in 2024, India was at the 17th position. It is the fifth fastest-growing Asian economy.

As per the World Bank, India was among the top ten growing economies in two years, 2016 (9th out of 208) and 2023 (8th out of 200).

According to the MoSPI, real GDP growth, or Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, of India at constant (2011-12) prices in the year 2024-25 is estimated at 6.49 percent compared to the growth rate of 9.19 percent in 2023-24. In 2024-25, India has recorded the lowest growth rate since 2021-22.

The GDP growth rate at current prices in 2024-25 is 9.78%; India has recorded the 3rd lowest nominal growth rate since the year 2003-04.

In the 2011-12 series, the average growth rate in 1951-2025 stands at 5.08%, reaching an all-time high of 9.69% in 2021-22 and a record low of -5.78% in 2020-21. During 6 years, growth was negative.

In the 2011-12 series, the average per capita growth rate in the period 1951-2025 stands at 3.16%, reaching an all-time high of 8.63% in 2021-22 and a record low of -7.51% in 1979-80. In 10 years, the GDP per capita growth rate was negative.
