As per the report of the Technical Group by the National Commission, the population of Uttar Pradesh is projected to be 241,265,000, or 241.27 million, or 24.13 crore, as of July 1, 2025. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India. Uttar Pradesh’s population is projected to reach 25.95 crore in 2036.
The size of the population of Uttar Pradesh is equivalent to that of Nigeria, the 6th most populous country in the world. None of the countries in South America, Europe, or Africa have more people than Uttar Pradesh.
In 2025, the sex ratio of the total population in Uttar Pradesh will be 108.461 males per 100 females. There are 125,529,000, or 125.53 million, or 12.55 crore, males and 115,736,000, or 115.74 million, or 11.57 crore, females in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh has 9,793,000, or 9.79 million, more males than females.
Uttar Pradesh accounts for 17.02 percent of the Indian population, 2.59% less than the peak of 19.57% in 1901. The population growth rate in 2025 is projected at 1.00%, the 8th highest among states. Uttar Pradesh will add 2.39 million more people in 2025.
According to the Census of India 2011, the population of Uttar Pradesh was 19.98 crore, increasing from 16.02 crore in 2001. There were 104,480,510 males and 95,331,831 females, with a sex ratio of 109.597 males per 100 females. The percentage of decadal growth during 2001–2011 was 20.23%, 5.62% lower than the 1991–2001 period. The population of Uttar Pradesh increased by 12.28 million during the decade 2001–2011.
The population of Uttar Pradesh, which at the turn of the twentieth century was around 46.65 million, increased by approximately 5.17 times in 124 years to reach 241.27 million in 2025. Uttar Pradesh has been the most populous state since 1901.
