As per the report of the Technical Group by the National Commission, the population of Andhra Pradesh is projected to be 53,402,000, or 53.40 million, or 5.34 crore, as of July 1, 2024. Andhra Pradesh is the tenth-most populous state in India and the third-most populous state in South India. Andhra Pradesh’s population is projected to reach 54.26 crore in 2036.
The size of the population of Andhra Pradesh is equivalent to that of Colombia, the 28th most populous country in the world. Only one country in South America, two in North America, five in Europe, and seven in Africa have more people than Andhra Pradesh.
In 2024, the sex ratio of the total population in Andhra Pradesh will be 99.921 males per 100 females. There are 26,690,000, or 26.69 million, or 2.67 crore, males and 26,711,000, or 26.71 million, or 2.67 crore, females in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh has 21,000 more females than males.
Andhra Pradesh accounts for 3.80 percent of the Indian population, 1.97% less than the peak of 5.77% in 1931. The population growth rate in 2024 is projected at 0.35%, the 2nd lowest among states. Andhra Pradesh will add 185,000 more people in 2024.
According to the Census of India 2011, the population of the state of Andhra Pradesh was 4.94 crore, increasing from 4.52 crore in 2001. There were 24,738,068 males and 24,648,731 females, with a sex ratio of 100.362 males per 100 females. The percentage of decadal growth during 2001–2011 was 9.21%, 2.68% lower than the 1991–2001 period. The population of Andhra Pradesh had increased by 4.16 million during the decade 2001–2011.
The population of Andhra Pradesh, which at the turn of the twentieth century was only around 13.07 million, increased by approximately 4.09 times in 123 years to reach 53.40 million in 2024. In 1901, Andhra Pradesh was the 7th most populous state, but as of 2024, it has overtaken Odisha and been surpassed by three states: Karnataka, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
