List of African countries by GDP per capita

Seychelles is the richest economy in Africa, followed by Mauritius. Only these two economies would have a per capita GDP above $10,000. Burundi is the poorest economy in Africa. Seventeen African economies have a GDP per capita below $1,000.

In 2024, Libya will overtake Equatorial Guinea to become the 5th richest economy in Africa. The Republic of Congo will overtake Mauritania and Angola. None of the African economies are in the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings.

Out of 54 economies, the nominal GDP per capita of 41 economies would increase, and 13 economies would decrease in 2024 compared to 2023. Mauritius will add $1,577 in 2024, followed by Libya ($399), Ethiopia ($399), and Algeria ($398). Nigeria ($-578) and Egypt ($-503) are the top decliners.

In PPP data, four economies have GDP per capita of above 20k Int. Dollars. Fourteen economies would have a per capita GDP above Int. $10,000. Algeria would overtake South Africa to become the 8th richest economy in Africa. None of the African economies is in the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings. South Sudan is the poorest economy in Africa in terms of PPP.

Out of 54 economies, the GDP (PPP) per capita of 51 would increase, and three economies would decrease in 2024 compared to 2023. Libya will add Int. $2,260 in 2023, followed by Mauritius (Int. $2,212) and the Seychelles (Int. $1,971). Sudan, Eritrea, and Equatorial Guinea are the three decliners.
